Escondido is located at the intersection of I-15 and hwy 78, about 30 miles north of San Diego. This is a good location to stay for trips to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and the Mt. Palomar Observatory.

There is plenty of lodging here, with many fine restaurants and shops. If you have time, you may want to catch a performance at the California Center for the Arts Escondido. Just north of town is the famous Lawrence Welk Resort.

EVENTS: May 18th, 2003 (Sunday) & Oct 16, 2003 (Sunday)
The Escondido Street Faire will be held on Grand Avenue (and intersecting streets) between Center City Parkway and Broadway from 9AM until 5PM. This is California's second-biggest one-day street faire. Plenty of entertainment, craft booths, food, etc. Just follow the signs to downtown Escondido and/or look for the crowds.

Grape Day Festival and Parade Sep 13, 2003
The Parade is on Grand Avenue, beginning at Escondido Ave and ends at Juniper.
During the day, in Grape Day Park, historical demonstrations and booths show how things were in the 1800s in Escondido. Also to be found are numerous vendors, arts & crafts booths, kids stuff, food, etc.
